For one night only, if you walked down 7th St in the East Village, you would have found a room with two hallways in the middle of the road. With no neutral positions available,  viewers had to be seen or watch. Some performed, sharing poems, songs, or stories, while others hovered below, waiting for someone else to assume responsibility. Many turned away once they realized the stage demanded something of them. Others would evade the entrance and exit strategy entirely by hoisting themselves on to the stage, interrupting performances because they believed they had something greater to say. The structure guided the behavior and revealed how quickly people can negotiate a platform.
